We keep thinking there's something glittering just ahead. Some approach we haven't thought of yet. The key to getting your book into the right hands.
We’ve convinced ourselves that other people understand this ballgame better. You only have a few ideas. Maybe post about your book more on LinkedIn. Share it with that one newsletter. Mention it to the person who asked what you've been working on.
That's about where the ideas end for you. But why isn't that your strategy?
Just because it's simple or comes directly from you doesn't make it worse. Just because marketing isn't your profession doesn't mean you need the right platform with the right technique at the right moment.
Let’s bring it into practice.
Write down what you already thought of. Even if it's just a single thing.
Look at that thing or short list. This is now the most effective way for your book to reach its audience. Treat it like advice from someone who knows what they're doing.
No need to measure every download or click now to find out if it works. Just see if something comes up that feels right for the initial effort you're putting in.
Start there and see what happens.
Remember how the book wrote itself once you stopped worrying so much about whether you were doing it right?
The same thing happens with sharing it. The promotion comes together when you're not staring at all the possibilities, paralyzed by options. It’s not about us.
While doing what you do, you still come across ideas that makes you think, "let me try that too." But what you feel like trying first will already tell you what you need to know. It’s most alive. It might bring more readers. If not, it shows you what to try next.
So let’s just continue with the handful of ideas you already have.
